A couple of weeks ago myself and Brad packed our bags and set off for the rolling blackdown hills in Somerset in order to stay at Dimpsey Glamping owned by my lovely friend, Emma. I was incredibly excited for the trip as this Shepherd’s hut, which has been crafted by the most amazing craftsman at Blackdown Shepherd’s Huts was not only new at Dimspey but was also a brace hut, meaning 2 huts put together to create a larger and more spacious hut. I was slightly nervous about staying as anything to do with camping makes me worried (I’m not a happy camper) as I like all the comforts of a building with solid walls and all the mod-cons when I’m away but I needn’t have worried! Dimpsey is like no other!!!
Emma has thought of everything! From the most delicious homemade cake waiting for you on arrival to all the little touches around the place- beautifully selected luxury toiletries in the bathroom, a hot chocolate box with marshmallows and a ripple in, bacon and eggs waiting for you in the fridge…the list is endless! I was overwhelmed by the attention to detail and I instantly felt very much at home there.
The Yonder hut as ours was named was tucked away in a little copse with stunning views over the hills, with cows for neighbours (very civil ones may I add, not like the noisy ones I live with 🤣) and a wood fired hot tub just waiting to be filled! We had a storm that night and the hut stood proud against the raging winds outside! I felt secure and safe and not at all like I may be ‘glamping’. There is a full size boiler so hot water and heating is not a problem and it’s plumbed in too so the toilet is not a hole in the ground or a compost loo like some may expect! Oh also it’s in the hut so no walking outside to outbuildings like I had imagined in my head. The shower is full size and the bath tub is big enough for 2 and then some! The bed is a full double and nothing feels small here, you could easily spend a week and not feel like you’re in a small space! In fact it’s bigger than most hotel rooms I’ve been in!
Emma and Andrew are on hand if you need anything and nothing is too much for them- they will run you to the local pub to save you having to drive, direct you the right way for beautiful walks and will also make you up picnics for the day if you let them know in advance! However you could very easily go for a weekend and not see anyone at all if you so wished!
I found my slice of heaven here and I hope to go back one day! I loved every second I was there and I will hold the memories I made there close- if you want the ultimate relaxing mini break then you must go, within seconds of arriving all your stresses literally melt away!
Cheers to that!! Xoxo
